On January 26, 2006, the respected New England Journal of Medicine published
a new study about Trasylol. Normally used to control bleeding after heart
bypass surgery, the German pharmaceutical giant, Bayer AG's Trasylol (aprotinin)
doubles a heart bypass patient's risk to develop kidney failure and the need for
dialysis by forcing an estimated 10,000 patients onto dialysis each year, as
well as, increases the risk for heart attacks and strokes causing Trasylol heart
failure and death.
Trasylol is used in 60 percent of all surgeries. This is astonishing considering
that Trasylol might be lethal to some patients. Among primary surgery patients,
the study found that Trasylol also increased the risk of myocardial infarction
by 48 percent, heart failure by 109 percent, and stroke by 181 percent. Neither
of Trasylol's (aprotinin) generic competitors was associated with increased
renal, cardiac, or cerebral events.
Trasylol (aprotinin) is used in more than 60 countries worldwide and has a sales
potential of over $600 million. Surprisingly, there are better, safer choices
available that cost far less but the average heart patient is not being properly
informed and instead being recklessly endangered.
Do you have a Trasylol lawsuit?
If you or a loved one has experienced
Trasylol kidney failure, stroke, or heart attack when injected with aprotinin
during heart bypass surgery you may be eligible for a Trasylol lawsuit.
