What is the problem that Ketek lawyers may help you pursue?
Who should your Ketek lawyer hold responsible for liver damage?
Sanofi-Aventis produces the antibiotic, Ketek. Sanofi-Aventis is the world’s
third largest pharmaceutical company. From 2004 to 2005, gross sales were up 9.3
percent. The French-owned Sanofi-Aventis Group conducts its business in the
United States through its subsidiaries – Sanofi-Synthélabo, Inc., Aventis
Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Sanofi Pasteur, Inc. Other pharmaceuticals produced
by this venture include Plavix®, Ambien®, Allegra®, and Actonel® to name a few.
In late January 2006, the European Agency for the
Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA) asked Sanofi-Aventis to include stronger
warnings on Ketek based on the three U.S. patients that experienced liver
damage, a liver transplant, and death from using Ketek for the short-term.
EMEA requested a precautionary measure, pending the outcome of a full
benefit/risk assessment of the product in the context of the ongoing renewal
procedure for the marketing authorization. And Sanofi-Aventis replied that the
company takes safety matters seriously and the three U.S. patients’ experiences
with Ketek would not alter the safety profile of Ketek.
As for action in the United States, the FDA has only asked doctors to monitor
patients taking Ketek for symptoms of liver problems and to immediately
discontinue treatment if such symptoms developed. This is not enough!
In other words – no one is taking responsibility for the liver injury dangers
caused by the antibiotic Ketek.
This is why if you have life threatening side effects like severe liver injuries
including liver failure, drug-induced hepatitis requiring hospitalization, and
liver damage that requires a liver transplant or a loved one has died from
related complications from taking the antibiotic Ketek --
you should contact an expert Ketek injury lawyer for a
complimentary consultation.
