The ETHEX Morphene Recall

ETHEX Morphene Recall Lawsuits

In late 2008, the ETHEX Corporation was at the center of a major medical recall, which you can read about on the FDA's website here. This company, a subsidiary of KV Pharmaceutical Company, has also dealt with recalls of similar drugs in the past. If you or a loved once has been affected by this recall, take a moment to learn a little about the company, their history, and their products.

ETHEX's mission statement, according to their company website, is to "be a leader in the generic/non-branded pharmaceutical industry by providing high quality, competitively priced products, and unparalleled value-added service". They have products that fall into eight different categories as follows: cardiovascular, women's health care, cough and cold, gastrointestinal, dermatology, hematinic, and digestive enzymes. With the most recent recall, the products in question were cardiovascular drugs. ETHEX specializes in producing generic drugs that are hard to replicate from the name brand and, thus, not available otherwise generically in many cases. Though this recall has certainly made consumers and doctors wary of their products, the company committed to quickly issuing a voluntary recall when need be, to help keep additional patients from becoming sick.

The ETHEX drugs involved in the recall were Propafenone HCl Tablets (150 mg, 225 mg, and 300 mg), Isosorbide Mononitrate Extended Release Tablets (30 mg and 60 mg), Morphine Sulfate Extended Release Tablets (15 mg), Morphine Sulfate Immediate Release Tablets (15 mg and 30 mg), and Dextroamphetamine Sulfate Tablets (10 mg). All of these medications were shipped prior to May 22, 2008, and they had expirations dates between November 2008 and March 2011. Check the official press release to read descriptions of the drugs that were recalled, and remember, if you are using any of these medications, contact your doctor if you need to stop taking them. Quick withdrawal, even missing just one pill, could be detrimental to your health.

The recall issued by ETHEX was due to too much active ingredient being used in the drugs. This could result in low or high blood pressure, fainting, irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, or a racing heart, depending on the drug involved. ETHEX has released a Customer Service Center number, which you can reach at 1-800-748-1472 to ask questions, and you can also report your adverse experiences with this drug to the FDA by contacting the MedWatch Program at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Remember, talk to your doctor about safely maintaining your drug usage, and if you have had any medical problems associated with this recall, call an Ethex Morphone recall lawyer today to find out about your legal rights.
