Eli Lilly and Co.(LLY) announced in June 2005 that it entered into an agreement in principle to settle about 8,000, or 75%, of the claims against the company related to its schizophrenia medication, Zyprexa. It is important to note that this proposed Zyprexa settlement does not mean that new claims may be brought against Eli Lilly. This proposed settlement applies to claims that have already been brought against the makers of Zyprexa, Eli Lilly and Co.

A nearly $700 million settlement was announced June 9, 2005. Eli Lilly will establish a $690 million fund for the settlement and will take a related, pre-tax charge of at least $700 million in the second quarter.
