Call on President Bush to Preserve Their Freedom and Liberty to Keep the Right to Access the Judicial System
Press Conference and 'Live' Internet Radio Telethon at Faneuil Hall, Boston!
BOSTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- "The Bush Administration is trying to take away the fundamental right to a jury trial by legislating limits on the Tort System," says Boston Attorney Jan Schlichtmann, who became famous nationally when he fought for the rights of victims of an environmental tragedy in Woburn, MA. That story, in which children died from ingesting a contaminated water supply and the subsequent lawsuit, was made into the movie, A Civil Action. Now, Schlichtmann, co-founder of the Legal Broadcast Network has taken on the greatest fight of his career. Schlichtmann says, "Nothing less than the fundamental right of every American to have his day in court is at stake here. We have to protect an individual's right to a jury trial in cases involving dangerous drugs such as Vioxx, medical malpractice, asbestos poisoning and consumer fraud." The Bush Administration's proposed tort reform legislation is before Congress right now. Schlichtmann, along with victims from across the nation and consumer advocates join forces in the Cradle of Liberty in Boston to fight back!

Victims of Proposed Tort Reform:
Ronald Myers, M.D. -- His medical malpractice insurance dropped coverage
for his 4 clinics because the low-income communities Myers practices in
have been deemed 'judicial hellholes,' even though there has not been a
single malpractice verdict in those counties. "Tort reform in my state
gave my insurer the power to cancel my coverage and close my clinics in
Mississippi, " says Dr. Myers who appeared recently on ABC's Good Morning
America. Dr. Myers has called upon President Bush to meet with him about
how his medical malpractice insurer canceled coverage using the powers of
a new tort reform law in the state. Alongside, Dr. Myers, other people
who will be impacted by proposed federal tort reform, will tell their
stories: family members who died taking Vioxx, relatives of those
poisoned by asbestos and victims of medical malpractice or consumer
fraud.
