Drug Industry admits that we did not get all of the data...

Drug Industry Promises to Disclose More Data

Move comes in response to concerns about popular medications

THURSDAY, Jan. 6 (HealthDayNews) -- Pharmaceutical companies around the world have agreed to disclose more data about clinical trials for new and existing drugs.

Results of clinical trials ... ... complete public transparence... Reactions to the announcement were mixed.... disclosure earlier on so we won't have to wait until there are a higher number of complications to re-examine the drug... As a physician, it's very difficult to tell people what you hear on the news is just the tip of everything that is going on... No industry, particularly one that can have such a devastating effect if it does the wrong thing, ... the voluntary plan "falls far short of ensuring the safety of prescription drugs on the market, as drug companies still will not be legally required to make public the potentially negative results of their studies or the possible side effects.

Matters intensified when New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer filed a lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline in June 2004, accusing it of suppressing information about possible suicidal thoughts and actions in children taking the antidepressant Paxil. As a condition of that settlement, the company agreed to publish drug trial results in a registry.

... Preliminary Phase I trials will not have to be disclosed, and companies won't be required to publish data on drugs that don't get approved. "It's a good step in the right direction to get more information out sooner, especially the negative information," said Frankel. "We just wanted to make sure we don't do any undue harm to our patients by using new drugs earlier on."
