12 hurt as bus hits runaway trailer on Pa. Turnpike

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - A Greyhound bus hit a trailer that had disconnected from a truck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike yesterday, injuring 12 passengers, none seriously, a company spokesman said. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh shortly after 5:30 a.m.

About 45 people were traveling on the bus from Detroit to New York, and 12 were hospitalized, Greyhound spokesman Eric Wesley said. It was not known whether the driver was among the injured, he said.

The driver hauling the trailer apparently did not realize it had broken loose, police said.- AP
