What is wrong with longer combination vehicles (LCVs) which are giant trucks with two or three trailers?

What is wrong with LCVs?

They are up to 120 feet long which makes them more difficult to pass (the current limit in Ontario is 82 feet)

They can have as many as 42 wheels, which means more things to go wrong

They expose motorists to longer periods of splash and spray

They are more difficult to brake in a straight line, are more difficult to control, more inclined to tip over, more inclined to jack-knife, more likely to sway, and more likely to veer into other lanes compared to single trailer trucks.

The 1987 federal-provincial foundation safety study recommended that triples not be allowed because they are too difficult to control.

Triples can have up to five points of articulation (that increase sway and reduce control)
