Anti-Psychotic Drugs

... the drug Risperdal is being given explicit approval by the corporate media for a very dangerous and unapproved use treating autism in children. In a single recent Canadian study of 80 children yes, merely 80 children, and over the course of 8 weeks yes, just 8 weeks, there is proof as per the corporate media that the drug Risperdal (risperidone), a drug approved for schizophrenia, is safe and effective in treating children with autism. Conducted by the IWK Health Center in Nova Scotia, the study claims that Risperdal is effective because 64% of 80 autistic children demonstrated a decrease in irritability, as opposed to 31% receiving a placebo. But the study also shows that children taking Risperdal demonstrate a marked increase of sleepiness, increased weight, increased pulse rate, and increased blood pressure. Risperdal?s possible side effects include tremors, urinary incontinence, increased sensitivity to sunlight, increased blood sugar (which may result in the necessity of regular testing), and tardive dyskinesia--a disorder marked by irreversible, involuntary movements of the head, face, neck, and tongue. Why any knowledgeable parent would exchange a child?s autistic symptoms for permanent and potentially deadly conditions, is a mystery "(Melissa Carr, 2004, Independent Media).
