Net revenue for the PREMARIN(R) family of products was $217 million for the fourth quarter, a decrease of 13% and $880 million for the year, a decrease of 31%. While prescription volume on a year-over-year basis was down significantly, for the 2004 fourth quarter versus the 2004 third quarter, Premarin family new and total prescription volume decreased 1.9% and 4.3%, respectively. For the 2004 fourth quarter versus the 2004 third quarter, PREMPRO(R) new prescription volume increased 2.1%.
Wyeth continues to focus its sales and marketing on the low-dose Premarin and Prempro options. A direct-to-consumer advertising campaign was launched in 2004 featuring Prempro 0.3 mg/1.5 mg. The national television campaign and print campaign educates women about the appropriate use of hormone therapy and encourages dialogue between women and their health care professionals about the treatment of menopausal symptoms.

Get a second opinion. There are other products on the market specifically for osteoporosis. Ask your doctor for another recommendation.

Prempro side effects vary from life threatening to benign. Breast cancer, uterine an ovarian cancer, heart attack, blood clots, dementia, and gall bladder disease would be considered life threatening. While benign but still painful Prempro side effects include headache, breast pain, irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting, nausea and vomiting, and possibly hair loss

She advised keeping a chart with the plusses and minuses. HRT can help lower the risk of colon cancer and osteoporosis, but puts a woman at slightly higher risk of breast cancer and heart attack.
Lippman jumped in. "Some things are undeniable. A woman who uses Prempro, (an estrogen progesterone combination drug), gains 5 percent risk factor a year. Over 10 years that becomes a 50 percent higher risk of breast cancer."

New Jersey-based Wyeth Inc. wants a court to reverse a decision consolidating lawsuits by Florida women who are demanding company-paid monitoring for complications linked to the hormone-replacement drug Prempro. Madison-based Wyeth is challenging the validity and the results of a 2002 study that found that Prempro raised the risk of heart attack, stroke, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and embolisms.
