These victims are suffering from E. coli O157:H7, one of the hundreds of strains of bacteria. This strain of E. coli produces a powerful toxin that can cause severe illness such as bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the symptoms usually clear up within a week to 10 days.
