MOVE TO CAP MALPRACTICE CLAIMS

About 950 members of the Association of Trial Lawyers
of America gathered in La Quinta, California, for the
group's midyear conference. The association was
established in 1946 in an effort to safeguard
victims' rights, promote injury prevention,
strengthen the civil justice system through education
and encourage the disclosure of information critical
to public health. Chicago attorney Todd A. Smith was
elected president of the association at its summer
2004 conference. The Desert Sun had the opportunity
to speak with Smith about issues facing trial
