Fosamax Lawsuits Jawbone Death Lawsuits

Fosamax Lawsuit Lawsuit Information

Fosamax may be beneficial to millions of woman with osteoporosis. However, it is not without serious side effect risks. Among them are osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), heart arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation), unusual thigh bone fractures, painful eye inflammations, and esophagus cancer.

Just how much risk do people need to face in order to combat bone loss?

Do You Have A Fosamax Lawsuit? »

It's no fun growing old. Your body isn't what it used to be. The pharmaceutical companies have developed numerous drugs and medical devices to help you grow old gracefully or so we would like to believe.

The billion-dollar-drug Fosamax is prescribed to help prevent osteoporosis and improve bone density mass for an aging population.

One of the painful side effects of Fosamax is that it may cause jawbone problems. This is particularly problematic to dentists and to people who need dental surgery, teeth pulled, and dental implants which is not uncommon especially for an aging population.

In recent research the Journal of American Dental Association determined that jawbone death and infection is more prevalent than originally thought for people taking osteoporosis drugs in the same class as Fosamax.

According to the study, bisphosphonates are designed to decrease the breakdown of bone by increasing bone density. While this staves off osteoporosis, problems can occur if the bone gets too dense. If bone gets much denser than normal, it may crowd out bone marrow, which contains the fat and tissue that make blood cells and stimulates bone healing. Higher bone density means less marrow, which in turn means the bone has less of a blood supply and is less able to heal.

So while people are allegedly developing more bone density to combat osteoporosis, the bones in the mouth and jaws are deteriorating. That is a sad fact of life.
