Ejected Child Raises Car Seat Safety Concerns

Ejected Child Raises Car Seat Safety Concerns

A father was killed and his baby was ejected from a vehicle in an accident in an accident in Minnesota. The accident, one of
more than two dozen accidents were blamed on the frost cover. The driver of the Suzuki Grand Vitara lost control, went through the center median, ramming into another car. The driver of the Vitara was killed. An 8-month-old infant in a safety car seat was ejected from the vehicle while still in the car seat. The child is in critical condition.

Investigators said the car seat the infant was riding in was designed to detach from a permanent base in the car. Child safety experts say parents using safety seats of this type should be sure the seat is latched securely. Authorities have not yet determined the cause for the ejection of the car seat involved in the crash.

According to experts, 78 percent of people in Minnesota don't use their car seats correctly.
