Safe driving tips for Louisana

Safe driving tips for Louisana

Please be courteous on roadways. Take along a designated driver if you plan to drink during the holiday season or call someone to pick you up after the party. . Make plans before going to those Christmas or New Year's Eve parties by having an alternate ride home if consuming alcohol is going to be a part of their plans. The Louisiana State Police will be enforcing all traffic laws and no one wants to remember this holiday as the year they were arrested for driving impaired or worse, being involved in a serious injury or fatality crash. Even if you are not going to drive impaired, be a good defensive driver as you never know what the other driver's conditions will be.

In 2005, 963 people were killed in fatality crashes and 82,500 people were injured throughout the state. A recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration survey shows the top ten driver distractions leading to crashes or near-crashes are: using a cell phone; chatting and interacting with passengers; reaching for compact discs or other internal distractions; programming radio stations or tinkering with the dashboard; using an electric razor, applying makeup or actions related to personal hygiene; unwrapping a burger or other packaging when eating at the wheel; external distractions such as pointing out billboards; talking or singing to oneself; smoking and daydreaming.
