Washington Car Seat Laws

Washington requires that children under the age of 16 be restrained in the following ways: Babies less than 1 year and weighing less than 20 pounds must ride in a rear-facing car seat. Children between 1 and 4 years old and weighing 20 to 40 pounds should ride in a forward-facing car seat. Children ages 4 to 6 who weigh between 40 and 60 pounds should ride in a booster seat. Children over age 6 or over 60 pounds should ride either in a booster seat or in a properly fitted seat belt.
