What is a work related illness?

Is Your Workplace Making You Sick?
There may be hidden hazards in your workplace. If you have developed a condition, which you feel, may be related to work, contact a properly qualified Workers Comp lawyer immediately.

Injury versus Illness
While it is clear when you injured in an accident, it is not so easy to tell that you have become sick or ill due to work. Often the products or chemicals that you work with can have a negative impact on your health. Some products produce telltale diseases, such asbestos causing lung cancer; welding causing manganism; benzene causing cancer. All of these are compensable injuries if you can prove they occurred as a result of work.

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
You may have a right to know what dangerous substances are being used at your workplace. The product, chemical or raw material manufacturer usually supplies this information to your employer. These sheets of warning data are then kept on file and you have a right to review them. If you get sick or have heath issues related to these products or ingredients, report you concern to the employers health and safety people and company doctor AND see a doctor about these problems. Also check to see if your union has bargained for protections and rights to know with respect to these products.
