Ask Larry: "Am I Entitled to Workers Comp Benefits?" : Blog Home : Finding a Workers Compensation Lawyer in Pennsylvania : Article

I have been injured in a work-related accident

Should I consult an attorney? When? Why?

Yes. Consult with a lawyer. And in our opinion, consult with a lawyer RIGHT AWAY. It is never too soon to get a free initial consultation, but it could be too late. So consult first, even if you think you are already getting everything you are entitled to get. You may be right, but you may not be getting all you deserve.

You should consult a lawyer when there is a change in the processing or payment of your benefits. These tend to be associated with a notice received from your employer or their insurance carrier.

You should consult an attorney any time you are asked to sign something related to your benefits, your medical condition, your work status, or your right to receive treatment.

You should consult a lawyer anytime you receive a notice. These notices could be a termination of benefits, a request for an insurance company medical exam. (They call them "independent" but we disagree with that characterization. Our experience is that they are anything but independent).

You should consult an attorney before you settle your claim to make sure that you are getting everything you are entitled to receive.

Make sure that you comply with all of the laws and conditions of the PA Workers Compensation Law. An attorney can be helpful in complying with the terms of the law, which will increase the likelihood that you will get the benefits you deserve. Be sure to consult with a lawyer who has experience handling workers compensation cases.
