Disability Blogger and the Social Security Administrative give a rundown on what you need to do to file a Social Security Disability appeal online. In fact, the administration encourages online filing.
If you need to file your initial claim for benefits, you can do so here: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/applyfordisability/
For the Internet Appeals, visit https://secure.ssa.gov/apps6z/iAppeals/ap001.jsp
The first step for an online appeal is to complete the appeal request, which will prompt you for information about your jobs, your residence and your medical condition(s) that cause your disability.
Second, you'll need to complete the appeal disability report, in which you will provide more detailed information about your medical condition, history of treatment and medical providers
While the Administration recommends online filing, Disability Blogger Tim Moore doesn't. If you're filing an appeal online, you won't be able to ask for clarification or help from a Social Security field worker.
- "One thing I've learned over the last few years as a caseworker, as a disability examiner, and as someone involved in disability representation is that 1) claimants should ask more questions to avoid confusion, 2) the social security administration does a very poor job of educating claimants about the disability process, and 3) too many bad situations result because claimants were not properly informed."
