Congress is considering a bill that would increase federal support and money for people with brain injuries and their families. The Traumatic Brain Injury Act, H.R. 1418, passed in 1996, is up for reauthorization.
This is the only federal legislation addressing the issues faced by the 5.3 million Americans who are living with a disability as a result of a traumatic brain injury.
The Act allows for coordinated prevention, research, education, and community-based services and supports for victims and their families.
It also focuses on prevention and awareness, through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
