There are a number of ways by which workers get taken advantage. Many of these involve pay rates for overtime, refusal to pay workers as employees, failure to pay for actual time worked, failure to allow for work rest breaks and meal breaks, work time spent in preparation or clean up, failure to pay for time used preparing reports, failure to pay salaried workers for overtime, averaging of time to avoid paying overtime, offering non-cash payments or benefits instead of overtime pay. These are all common violations of the FLSA, 29 CFR Chapter V.
The FLSA sets the minimum wage rate, overtime pay standards, recordkeeping for work hours, child labor standards. It covers private and government, part time and full time workers. See: http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/flsa/ for details on the FLSA
