What should I know about taking Zyprexa?
-
Call your doctor
immediately if you have uncontrollable movements of your mouth, tongue,
cheeks, jaw, arms, or legs.
-
Zyprexa may cause
dizziness or drowsiness. Use caution when driving, operating machinery,
or performing other hazardous activities.
-
Use alcohol cautiously.
Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking
Zyprexa.
-
Avoid becoming overheated.
It is easy to become dangerously dehydrated while you are taking Zyprexa.
Use caution in hot weather and during exercise; drink plenty of water.
What other drugs affect
Zyprexa?
It’s very important to tell your doctor and your pharmacist about all
the medicines (including over-the counter) that you are taking before
being prescribed Zyprexa.
Zyprexa may increase the effects of medicines that are used to control
high blood pressure. This could lead to very low blood pressure,
dizziness, and fainting. Zyprexa may also increase the effects of drugs
that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol,
antihistamines, sedatives, pain relievers, anxiety medicines, muscle
relaxants, and any other drug that makes you feel sleepy or relaxed.
Zyprexa may decrease the effects of drugs used to treat Parkinson's
disease; this could lead to worsening Parkinson’s symptoms.
What is ketoacidosis(Zyprexa Diabetes)?
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is one of the side effects of Zyprexa.
Diabetic ketoacidosis or DKA is a condition where the body has a severe
deficiency of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate the
level of glucose in the blood. Glucose is the main form of sugar in the
body. DKA is a serious complication of diabetes. Diabetic ketoacidosis
may lead to the initial diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, as it is often the
first symptom that causes a person to seek medical attention. It can
also result from increased insulin needs in someone already diagnosed
with type 1 diabetes. Infection, trauma, heart attack, or surgery can
lead to diabetic ketoacidosis in such cases.
Diabetes ketoacidosis is a serious but treatable complication of
diabetes. Early signs of DKA include the classic signs of high blood
glucose: excessive hunger, excessive thirst, and increased urination. As
the person's blood glucose level continues to rise, more symptoms may
occur, such as abdominal pain, confusion, dehydration, with decreased
sweating, fatigue, fruity odor of the breath, loss of appetite, malaise,
or a vague feeling of illness, nausea and vomiting. If the DKA goes
untreated, you may fall into a coma.
Why is it that Japan and
Europe were able to get the better warnings on Zyprexa labeling
faster than the U.S?
Drug companies spend millions on drug lobbyists and money talks in our
economy. Other countries may have less bureaucratic red tape.
Should I contact Eli
Lilly about my symptoms?
You should contact your doctor and have your doctor file an adverse
reaction report with the FDA. You should also consider contacting an
attorney to discuss your legal rights. You should also call the FDA MedWatch at 1-800-FDA-1088.
I cannot afford to hire
a Zyprexa lawyer. How much does a Zyprexa diabetes lawsuit cost?
It costs you nothing. If we agree to be retained, Monheit Law takes the
case on a percentage contingency basis. If you don’t win your Zyprexa diabetes lawsuit, we don’t get
paid.
