Speed is often critical in Jeep, SUV and other vehicle rollovers. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), shows that over 70% of fatal rollovers occur where the speed is 55 miles per hour or higher.
In many cases, even at slow speeds, a driver who is unable to maintain control of the car can be severely injured even though the drivfer was driving well below the speed limit and wearing a seat belt. This can occur when the SUV rolls over and the roof crushes the occupants.
In fact, there is an entire science behind the speed of vehicles and the tendancy of that vehicle to roll over. Low Speed SUV Rollovers do occur. At a low-speed, when a side impact occures, some SUVs with a particularly narrow track width and short wheelbase, can be caused to rollover.
An SUV rollover can occur when the car is side impacted at low speed. For example, with a two-door Geo Tracker at or near the posted speed limit of only 35 m.p.h., when hit at low speed on a side impact, the Tracker can be caused to spin and then roll over.
